Levee Inspection

St. Jude to Venice Levee System, Louisiana

MGE, as a joint venture partner in SBSA Group Ltd., was the task manager responsible for preparation of the Periodic Inspection Report for the 70 mile St. Jude to Venice ring levee system.  The levee system is located south of New Orleans and protects land that lies between the Mississippi River and the Gulf of Mexico.  In addition to levees, the system includes four pump stations, sheet pile floodwalls, and a flood gate structure on a navigation channel between the Gulf and the Mississippi River.  The purpose of the periodic inspection is to evaluate the system components for their ability to provide the desired level of protection, document correction of previously identified deficiencies, identify deficiencies that need correction, recommend corrective measures to resolve the identified deficiencies, and provide an on-going record of the overall system condition.  As task manager, MGE was responsible for managing the civil and structural inspection teams, preparing the Periodic Inspection Reports for the levee system and flood gate structure, and delivering the final out brief to the USACE Louisiana District.
