Under an IDIQ contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, MGE performed an independent technical review (ITR) of the proposed retrofit design for the existing reinforced concrete conduit downstream of the control tower. The primary objective of the project is to remove the current risk of dam failure during an earthquake due to liquefiable material that underlies the dam. In particular, MGE reviewed the adequacy of proposed structural improvements and foundation anchorage systems for the conduit structure. This initial task order served to provide an independent assessment of the merits, feasibility, and constructability of the proposed retrofit design for the existing conduit. MGE completed the ITR and provided review comments through the “DrChecks” system. Subsequently, MGE was assigned a task order to complete the 30% design, structural plans, and specifications for the retrofit or replacement of the conduit, extension of the conduit, and a new spillway and stilling basin.
